Professional Services
The concept of the Sirocco blown fibre system is simple, using compressed air
to blow units of fibres into a tube. Making the most of the concept, from planning the network
design and configuration, through its inception and ongoing effectiveness, requires a thorough
understanding of the technology. Some of this is available through the programme of training
courses provided by Prysmian. The rest can be obtained by contacting Prysmian who can organise a
quotation for the range of services required. These include
Planning Consultancy
While the Sirocco system provides a simple and effective means of reconfiguring or upgrading
the network in response to changing demands, it will be most cost effective when building from the
most appropriate Day-1 configuration. Whether to build a graded tube network (19

where / whether to locate tube distribution units, install an 8-fibre blown unit and break-out or
install separate lower fibre count units from a central point. There are many issues that should be
assessed on Day-1 to minimise potential lifetime add-on costs.
Working with partner organisations, Prysmian can supply a consultancy service to ensure that
the Sirocco system to be installed is the most appropriate and integrates with any existing legacy
network.

Training
It is essential for any installer using Sirocco blown fibre equipment to be fully trained.
Apart from this being a legal requirement as part of the licence agreement Prysmian has with
British Telecom, it is fundamental to the correct and effective installation and application of
Sirocco. A range of Sirocco training courses and held regularly by Prysmian and by our partners and
agents who have been trained and assessed by us to run these courses on our behalf.
Basic Sirocco Training Course (1-day)
This training course is available from Prysmian in the UK at our
purpose-built Sirocco training facility near Southampton.
Installation Support
The training of all installers of the Sirocco system is a pre-requisite not
only of our licence but more importantly, for the most successful installation of the product.
However, for the comfort of our customers (end-users and installers) we will provide support in
many ways, from site visits in the event of issues arising to supervising installation if required.
Many people have now been through the Sirocco training program, and this will be followed by
many more as some of our partner companies have established their own training programme under our
authority. For an end-user wishing to identify a suitable resource or an installer seeking
assistance, Prysmian can offer a service.
